Safe, high-quality water is critical to our customers’ health and well-being. We also seek ways to promote affordability, improve service, and prepare for emergencies. Since our customers are also our neighbors, we prioritize their needs as we identify opportunities for philanthropy and volunteerism.
At California Water Service Group, we take customer safety seriously. We devote significant resources to sampling, testing, and treating water, including investments in certified water quality professionals and rigorous training. Our robust infrastructure also helps us address emerging contaminants, potential cross-connections, and other risks. We conducted over 615,000 water quality tests in 2024 to confirm that we met or surpassed all state and federal water quality standards.
The United Nations has identified safe and reliable drinking water as a human right, and we focus on controlling customer costs and improving access. Our efforts include prioritizing operational efficiency, minimizing expenses appropriately, developing flexible low-income support programs, and pursuing grant funding opportunities. In 2024, we submitted $10.7 million in government grant funding applications to provide safe drinking water to at-risk communities.
We strive to maintain positive relationships with our stakeholders, including customers and community leaders, employees, investors, and regulators. By maintaining open, transparent, and consistent communication, we can gather input, address concerns, and incorporate feedback to consistently improve.
Our customers expect excellent service, and we remain committed to making ongoing improvements to better serve them. That includes exploring ways to increase convenience, keep customers informed, and protect their information. Customer feedback plays a vital role in these efforts, helping us identify new areas where we can excel. In 2024, we served over 560,000 customer connections across California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Washington.
The threat of cyberattacks has been rising globally, and we continue to strengthen our approach to cybersecurity wherever feasible. That enables us to support our customers without interruption and to safeguard their personal information.
Wildfires, landslides, and other emergencies can occur at any time, especially as the effects of climate change become more evident. We invest in training, equipment, and processes that enable us to respond swiftly when emergencies occur to minimize service interruptions and limit the impact on our communities.
Our charitable giving and volunteer activities have the power to make a difference in people’s lives, and we focus our efforts on the communities we serve. Our financial contributions address a broad range of needs, including assistance for at-risk communities, workforce development, education, and support for first responders. We donated more than $1.1 million to local community organizations in 2024.
