California Water Service to Begin Dixon Water Infrastructure Upgrade to Improve Water Supply Reliability and Fire Protection
DIXON, Calif.—California Water Service (Cal Water) will begin a water infrastructure improvement project next month to upgrade and enhance water quality and water supply reliability for its Dixon District customers.
The district will install chromium-6 treatment at an offline well in Dixon to meet the state’s water quality standard at its station and bring the well back online for customer use. This will add an additional source of safe, clean water for customers in central and west Dixon during the peak demands of summer, improving water supply reliability and fire protection.
Cal Water is scheduled to complete the project by September 2027, ahead of the compliance deadline set by the State Water Resources Control Board when it issued the new state maximum contaminant level (MCL) in 2024. The MCL for chromium-6 is 10 parts per billion (ppb).

The treatment method, known as Reduction-coagulation–filtration (RCF), is the first of its kind in the Dixon District and is designed to remove chromium-6, also known as hexavalent chromium, from the well water.
Construction for this new treatment process will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., near the intersection of Porter Road and South Almond Street. Crews will work to minimize impacts and disruptions to neighbors and motorists during construction.
Other wells in Cal Water’s Dixon District that were previously impacted by—and treated to remove—chromium-6 continue to utilize treatment to keep water across the system safe and reliable for customers.
