California Water Service to Begin Water Infrastructure Upgrade to Improve Water Supply Reliability in Visalia
VISALIA, Calif.—California Water Service (Cal Water) will begin work next month on a water infrastructure project that will improve water supply reliability for customers in Visalia. Cal Water crews will construct a new groundwater well that will help meet current and future water demands while strengthening overall system reliability in the northwest side of town.
“As our community continues to grow, this new well will help us continue to provide safe, clean, and reliable water service for our customers,” said Stuart Skoglund, Visalia’s Interim District Manager. “This project will increase local water supply capacity, improve operational flexibility, and strengthen overall system reliability for our customers’ homes, businesses, and daily lives during peak demand periods and in emergency situations.”
Construction is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8 and continue through November. Work will include drilling and development of the new groundwater well, installation of the well casing, and related activities necessary to complete the project. Once completed, the new well will be one of 88 groundwater wells enhancing local water supply and increasing system capacity and resiliency.
Crews will typically work Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., however, due to the continuous nature of well drilling operations, certain construction activities will occur 24 hours per day from Sept. 8 through Sept. 25. To help minimize noise impacts to nearby residents and businesses, temporary sound walls will be installed around the construction site.
Crews will work hard to also minimize dust, traffic impacts, and other temporary inconveniences during construction. For public safety, a nearby walking path will be temporarily rerouted around the fenced construction area; however, access will remain available throughout the project. “We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while we complete this important infrastructure improvement,” Skoglund said.
