California Water Service Begins Mountain View Water Infrastructure Upgrade To Improve Supply Reliability, Fire Protection

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—California Water Service (Cal Water) has begun a water infrastructure upgrade to enhance water supply reliability and fire protection in southwest Mountain View. Crews are installing 2,350 feet of new water main and five new fire hydrants to help strengthen the water system for residents and businesses in the area.

“We proactively upgrade our water systems and perform ongoing maintenance to keep our systems reliable, because the community depends on the water we provide for their everyday and emergency needs. That’s something we take seriously,” said Dawn Smithson, Cal Water’s Los Altos Suburban District Manager. “This approach has allowed us the privilege of serving customers for 100 years, and it will enable us to continue providing quality, service, and value for the next 100 years.”

Crews will be working on Barbara Avenue, from Miramonte Avenue to Brookdale Avenue, and Isabelle Avenue, from Marilyn Drive to Barbara Avenue, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with temporary lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will work to minimize traffic disruption. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to be completed in October.

Temporary asphalt will be applied until permanent paving is completed, which can be up to 30 days after project completion.

The project is part of Cal Water’s Main Replacement Program, which focuses on proactively replacing aging infrastructure, while maximizing the existing infrastructure’s life to help prevent small, manageable issues from getting bigger and more expensive to fix.
