California Water Service Working on Water Infrastructure Upgrade to Improve Water Supply Reliability and Fire Protection in Livermore
LIVERMORE, Calif.—California Water Service (Cal Water) is working on a water infrastructure upgrade to enhance water supply reliability and fire protection in Livermore. Crews are installing 855 feet of new 8-inch water main and three new fire hydrants, supporting downtown residential customers, businesses, and a nearby hospital.
“This infrastructure improvement project is a testament to our proactive approach of providing a reliable supply of safe, clean water to our customers in Livermore for generations to come,” said John Freeman, Livermore District Manager, about the project which began in February. “Whether it’s for their everyday use or for an emergency need, we worry about what it takes to keep our customers’ water flowing so they don’t have to.”
The new main is expected to last at least 100 years and replaces a section of pipe that was installed in 1949. Not only does this investment help strengthen the overall water system, but it also helps keep costs lower by anticipating and preventing failure over time, Freeman said.
Crews are working along Railroad Avenue, between First Street and P Street, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with some work happening overnight to minimize traffic disruptions to the area. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of April, weather permitting.
This is just one of Cal Water’s efforts to continually modernize and upgrade its water system so that it keeps meeting federal and state regulations and provides customers safe, clean, reliable water, both now and in the future.
